Fady's Priorities
We must start putting people before politics again in Indiana, and we must spread that compassion instead of the same, tired partisanship we see every day in the news. Indiana deserves a strong, experienced, and progressive leadership that is committed to justice, fairness, equality, compassion, and prosperity for all citizens. As your State Senator, Fady is focused on:
Affordable Healthcare
Indiana has been confronted with many public health and safety challenges, including the most recent COVID-19 pandemic. One thing is certain: the Indiana General Assembly must protect Hoosiers' right to quality and affordable health care. More than 600,000 Hoosiers are enrolled in the state’s HIP 2.0 and CHIP programs. During these uncertain times, they should not live in fear of losing their insurance because of partisan politics at the Statehouse and in Washington, D.C. No Hoosier should have to choose between paying for their medicine or paying rent.
Social & Economic Investments
In order for Indiana to attract jobs and businesses, we must integrate Hoosiers into the global economy and give them the incentive to live, work, and raise families in Indiana. Issues like poverty, unemployment, and hunger hold Indiana back from reaching its full potential as an economic engine. The state spends a significant amount of money on incentives for big businesses downtown. We need to make sure we are supporting and investing in small businesses, especially during the pandemic, across central Indiana so they can continue to be a source of new job creation.
Education
Teacher pay and investments in public education are Fady’s top priorities. The only way that Indiana can compete nationally for jobs and businesses is by making critical and responsible investments in pre-K, K-12 schools, and the state’s vocational, colleges, and universities. This all begins once the state finally provides educators the respect and pay they deserve. Also, the state legislature should immediately pass legislation that guarantees school districts will receive full state funding when they are operating virtually to protect the lives of their students, teachers, and staff.
Infrastructure
During Fady's time as the Controller of the City of Indianapolis and Marion County, he worked to find the error in the funding formula for infrastructure that cost the city millions of dollars and that the Indiana legislature overlooked. Thanks to his efforts, the error has been corrected and our city will begin receiving the correct allotment from the state. While this is a great start, Fady recognizes that the state can do more, and he supports efforts to make sure that our infrastructure needs are met.
Reproductive Rights
Fady is pro-choice and will always work to protect reproductive freedom and choice for all people. Folks in District 30 and all over Indiana deserve access to affordable quality healthcare which includes family planning services like coverage of contraception and reproductive services. Expanding autonomy through access to these services is indispensable for economic opportunity and security for patients and their families.
Common Sense Gun Reform
According to Moms Demand Action, on average, more than 100 Americans are shot and killed every day — and twice that many
are wounded. This issue affects every community: 58% of American adults, or someone they care for, have experienced gun violence in their lifetime. That’s why we must address gun violence in all its forms. Fady supports background checks for all gun sales to make sure people who aren't allowed to have a gun don't get their hands on one. Fady also supports strengthening and closing loop holes in our red flag laws, as well as ensuring guns are kept away from domestic abusers.

Climate Change
Indiana consistently ranks in the bottom 10 of all states in environmental categories. While other states have chosen to incentivize their residents who take steps to mitigate climate change, Indiana has taken the opposite approach. Furthermore, Indianapolis is one of the few cities of its size nationwide that does not offer free curbside recycling. It is past time for the Indiana legislature to invest in green energy and make climate change a priority in our state. Fady will be that advocate in the Senate.
Marijuana Reform
Fady believes that marijuana reform is an important step in the reform of our criminal justice system. In Marion County, Prosecutor Ryan Mears took the lead by choosing not to prosecute small possession cases. We need to expand this by decriminalizing marijuana at the state level so that law enforcement and prosecutors can focus resources where they are more needed. We also need to create a medical marijuana program that can provide an option for our veterans, cancer patients, and others who can benefit from medical marijuana.
